Common questions

What fractional marketing leadership is, when it makes sense, and how it works in practice.

What does a fractional marketing director do?

A fractional marketing director provides senior leadership on a part-time basis: setting strategy, prioritising budgets and channels, guiding your team and reviewing results. My focus is on connecting brand, customer acquisition and retention to your commercial goals, rather than managing isolated activities.

When should I hire a fractional marketing director?

Consider it when marketing is busy but lacks direction, your founder is still making every marketing decision, your team needs senior support, or growth has stalled despite investment. It can also help when launching products or developing a direct-to-consumer channel. The right choice depends on the problem you need to solve, not just your size.

How is this different from a marketing agency or consultant?

An agency typically delivers agreed channels or campaigns; a consultant may advise on a specific challenge. Fractional leadership sits within your business to connect those activities, guide people and own the direction of the marketing plan. I can work alongside your existing agency and in-house team rather than replace them.

Is a fractional marketing director the same as a fractional CMO?

Both terms describe part-time senior marketing leadership. A fractional chief marketing officer (CMO) often has a broader executive remit; titles and responsibilities vary between businesses. What matters is agreeing the decisions, leadership and delivery you actually need.

How much does a fractional marketing director cost?

The investment depends on the scope, time commitment and level of support required. We discuss your goals first, then agree the work and fee. An ongoing leadership role, a focused audit and an advisory arrangement have different needs, so I do not publish a one-size-fits-all price.

Which businesses do you work with?

My focus is ambitious consumer, sport, wellness and lifestyle brands, particularly those balancing brand building with ecommerce, retail and customer retention. My background includes 12 years at Frog Bikes and earlier sports marketing roles. I am based in Surrey and London and work with businesses across the UK, Europe and US.

Will you work with our existing marketing team?

Yes. Team leadership and mentoring are central to my approach. I help set priorities, develop capability and connect in-house marketers with agency and freelance support, so there is a shared plan and clearer accountability.

How quickly can we expect results?

It depends on your starting point, resources and goals. Early work focuses on understanding the business and prioritising action; some improvements can be made quickly, while brand building and sustained growth take longer. We agree meaningful measures at the outset and review progress rather than promise a fixed result by a fixed date.
